Prickly Pear Extract
Opuntia ficus-indica
Traditional use: Prickly pear has been eaten as a food and used traditionally in Mediterranean and Latin American practice for centuries.
Prickly pear (Opuntia ficus-indica) is the fruit of a desert cactus. Its vivid magenta colour comes from betalains — naturally occurring plant pigments that belong to the wider family of dietary antioxidants.
Antioxidants form part of the body's normal defence against oxidative stress, which is a routine part of everyday metabolism. Prickly pear extract is included in Nervitix as a polyphenol-rich botanical.
Prickly pear is widely consumed as a food across the Mediterranean, Mexico and North Africa, and is well tolerated by most adults.
